Townsend Beef Requirements
These requirements will clearly ensure improved and more consistent eating quality and exclude beef which is likely to be of a more variable eating quality.
- Meat from female cattle may not be used.
- Cattle which have been fed corn or other GMO grain cannot be used
- Cattle which have been fed animal by products or have been given growth hormones cannot be used.
- Cattle must be under 30 months of age.
- Maturation of 21 days is required on primals used for frying, roasting and grilling (from slaughter to the final consumer).
- Bulls cannot be used.
- All cattle breeds must be of French, British, or Canadian origin.
- No cattle whose primary function is dairy will be used.
- No cattle who carry the Zebu gene will be used (East Indian brama cattle cross bred with american cattle)
